How to apply press-ons so they last up to two weeks
A well-applied press-on can stay put for 10–14 days. A badly applied one will float off in the bath after two. The difference is almost always in the prep, not the glue.
Nail prep (the step that matters most)
- Push your cuticles back with a wooden stick — gently, after a shower or soaking your hands.
- Lightly buff the nail surface (a few passes is enough — don’t file the plate down!).
- Degrease each nail with an alcohol wipe or cleanser. After this step, don’t touch your nails with your fingers again.
Glue or adhesive tabs?
- Glue lasts 7–14 days. Apply a thin layer to your natural nail (not the tip), press the nail on from the cuticle towards the free edge, and hold for 30 seconds.
- Adhesive tabs last 1–3 days and are perfect for a wedding, a shoot or a weekend — the press-on comes off cleanly and can be reused.
The first hours
Avoid water for 2 hours after application. If you can, apply your set in the evening — the glue cures overnight and the bond gets much stronger.
Removing without damage
Soak your hands in warm soapy water for 10–15 minutes and gently lift the edge with a wooden stick. Never rip press-ons off dry — you’ll take the top layer of your natural nail with them. Removed with care, my sets survive several applications.
